Portuguese Franchising reaches Far East
EUROPEAN FITNESS LEADER OPENS IN SINGAPORE WITH EXTENSION TO MALAYSIA
Vivafit, the largest gym network in Portugal, will have approximately 100 branches in Singapore by 2020 as a result of the contract signed today with a local entrepreneur.
The agreement was signed today between the CEO of Vivafit, Pedro Ruiz, and the local Master Franchisee, Cecile Jamoulle-Ogren, a Belgian businesswoman who arrived in Singapore 14 years ago with Arthur Andersen, and who in 2002 started her own trading company.
Her extensive business experience combined with her know-how of the fitness business that she will acquire with the Vivafit franchise system will soon create one of the main players in Singapore, where there is a large market of sedentary women searching for practical solutions to improve their health fast using exercise and a healthy diet.
The only obstacle to an explosive expansion in Singapore is the large shortage of available shops caused by the boom in the economy, Pedro Ruiz said from Singapore.
The first gym to open in Singapore is already in the licensing process and will open in April, inside a cntral shopping mall. The business plan also includes the opening of 100 franchise fitness clubs in Singapore, as well as the extension to Malaysia for 200 new branches of the European brand.
Initial investment in Singapore is aprox. 500.000 Euros, and according to Pedro Ruiz, will make the Vivafit brand even more global, it is already present in India with the official opening scheduled for this month, and this will enable entry into more countries in the Far East, namely Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Indonesia
Singapore, in addition to having English as an official language like India, has been given the top position in international rankings for corporate liberalism, has five million inhabitants, and is one of the 3 main financial centres of the world along with New York and Hong Kong.
With a total of 114 gyms in Portugal, in 2010 alone Vivafit opened ten new centers. Vivafits mission to help women achieve their fitness goals with exercise habits is servicing approximately 40,000 clients.
For this year the Portuguese Group Vivafit plans openings in India, Singapore, Portugal and Spain where they already have 3 units in Madrid, Badajoz and Lepe, in addition to continuing to develop the national market.
Vivafit is a national brand, a pioneer with its introduction to Portugal seven years ago founded by Pedro Ruiz with his wife and the company President Connie Ruiz. Together they built the concept of express gyms exclusively for women, leading the Portuguese fitness market in number of units and the segment of fitness clubs exclusively for women the more significant one with a market share of more than 75 percent. Connie explains, With a clear mission to focus on the results of the clients and applying the best practices of the fitness industry, the Vivafit brand has a strong chance to grow into the number one provider of womens express workouts in Singapore under the leadership of our Master Franchisee Cecile Jamoulle-Ogren.
